I took the upstairs studio at the Sunrise Gallery for July and August in order to concentrate on watercolour, experiment with papers, work larger and quickly without pressure or deadlines.
Of course I immediately imposed my own deadline, deciding to paint the view of Lake Ontario from the studio each day, noting the changes in the sky and water as a visual journal and working on full half sheets, 22″ x 15″.
Through an incredibly hot and humid summer, there were days when the paper stayed damp and felt as limp as I did. On those days, just dragging myself up the three flights was almost enough of a challenge…
but the view always made the climb worthwhile.
