Heather Moore

Born in Toronto, Heather Moore attended the Artists Workshop and the Ontario College of Art studying Graphic Design with majors in Painting and Photography. An award-winning Art Director, she has worked as a designer and writer but painting has been of major importance in her life.

She lived in New Zealand for 6 years, where she was a tutor at the Whitecliffe College of Art and served as Chair of the Regional Arts Council. She taught watercolour workshops throughout the country and exhibited widely.

Returning to Canada, Heather taught at the Burlington Art Centre for many years and continues to enjoy a long-standing creative association with 3H Communications in Oakville.

In 2006, Heather was awarded an International Residency Grant (Ireland).

In 2010, she was invited to submit designs for an edition of the Toronto Star guest-edited by the Dalai Lama. His Holiness selected her concept and that artwork appeared as the front page and throughout the edition.

Her work is in private & corporate collections in North America, Britain, Ireland, Norway, Australia and New Zealand.

Painting is an endless balancing process: technique and content, emotion and intellect, control and freedom, negative and positive, the painted area and the surface. When the balance is well drawn it is restorative and reflects the serenity and order that I strive to convey in my work.

The illusion of the paper surface holds a fascination for me – areas left for the viewer to complete – the paper taking a new position in the picture plane.

At its best, painting reflects the fine balance that is life itself.
